Evaluation of Semicircular Canals
A comparative study of the semicircular canal section versus the Bureau's typical trapezoidal canal section was made to define the potential efficiencies to be gained through the use of this more hydraulically efficient open channel shape. Associated factors that might dictate the selection of one type section over the other are reviewed such as slope stability, lining strength, construction, maintenance, and safety; and possible reductions in losses due to seepage and evaporation, invert slope, right-of-way, crossing spans, concrete lining, and canal excavation.
