Earth Dams and Reservoirs
The technical release contains the minimum criteria used by the SCS for planning and designing earth dams and associated spillways. The material is applicable to dams and reservoirs larger than ordinary farm ponds. It is used by SCS engineers but the contents will be useful to engineers in other organizations. The criteria is for the hydrology and geology portions of design. Earth embankment and foundation requirements described including minimum factors of safety for embankment slope stability. Spillways requirements include hydraulic design, structural strength, and stability of earth and vegetated spillways.
