Azotea Tunnel Instrumentation Program, San Juan-Chama Project, New Mexico
An instrumentation program was developed for Azotea Tunnel San Juan Chama Project, Colorado-New Mexico to evaluate tunnel stability. The program included rock instrumentation, concrete lining instrumentation, and a special lining performance test. This report describes the procedures and results obtained from the program. The lining performance test showed that expansive shales developed pressures high enough to cause cracking and movement in the lining. Lining instrumentation suggested that shotcrete protected the shale and prevented changes in stability of rock mass behind the lining. (Author)
