Analyzing Trends in Housing Construction and Operating Costs
The purpose of the report is to identify the trends that have been occurring in the cost of housing in the United States, particularly over the last five years. In analyzing the cost of both conventional stick-built housing and mobile homes, attention was focused on trends occurring in the: (1) Major components of housing cost-land, construction, financing, taxes, utilities, maintenance and insurance; (2) four Census Regions - Northeast, North Central, South and West; (3) four types of neighborhoods as classified by HUD--core city, other city, suburban, and rural; and (4) different sized cities--larger versus smaller.
