NIOSH Testimony on Underground Storage Tanks by J. D. Millar, April 17, 1987 and June 16, 1987. (Comments to EPA)
The testimony consisted of a letter written by J. D. Millar to the Office of Underground Storage Tanks, EPA, concerning the proposed rulemaking dealing with underground storage tanks. NIOSH recommends in the letter that prevention of injuries and deaths from excavation cave ins or confined space entry be emphasized in this matter. Further, NIOSH suggests that consideration be given to protecting the health of those workers involved with the decontamination and cleanup necessitated by spills or leaks from such underground storage tanks. Several documents accompanied the letter including the development of draft construction safety standards for excavations; the NIOSH Alert, Request for Assistance in Preventing Deaths and Injuries from Excavation Cave-ins; and the NIOSH Alert, Request for Assistance in Preventing Occupational Fatalities in Confined Spaces.
