State Highway Route 84 in Contra Costa and, Sacramento Counties, 04,10-CC, SAC-84, 11.1/11.8,00/2.9, 0.7 Mile South of Contra Costa, County Line to 2.9 Miles North, (Antioch Bridge)
The proposed project is a four-lane access controlled highway, 3.6 miles long on California State Route 84 near Antioch, in Contra Costa and Sacramento Counties. It is a proposed north-south crossing of the San Joaquin River from 0.7 mile south of 2.9 miles north of the County line. The southerly limit of the project is immediately east of the City of Antioch. The principal feature of the project will be a 9,100 foot, four-lane bridge over the San Joaquin River. Population and industrial-commercial growth will not be stimulated by the construction of the project. The proposed bridge will be higher and wider than the existing, thereby enhancing both vehicular and river traffic. Some work will have to be done which will disturb the river bottom, but construction methods approved by the Department of Fish and Game will be utilized. About 44 acres currently used for agriculture and wildlife habitat will be converted to highway use.
