Wood-Damaging Fungi in Truss Structures of Baroque Churches
AbstractThis paper presents the results of a comparative study of biological damage to wooden structural elements of truss structures in a group of typologically similar buildings: small-sized and medium-sized baroque churches in the Czech Republic. Within the study, the data on the genus composition of wood-damaging fungi, locations where they were identified, and their activities are reported. The data were obtained during structural and mycological surveys of the condition of wooden structural elements carried out, in most cases, before planned reconstructions of their roof structures. The data on the genus composition of wood-damaging fungi were obtained either directly in the structures—based on the evaluation of macroscopic indications of biological damage—or in the laboratory by means of cultivation and microscopic analyses of wood samples. The result, in terms of biological damage, is the ascertainment of the genus composition of wood-damaging fungi active at typical high-risk locations of typologically similar truss structures.
