Winning Teams in the ACI Student FRC Bowling Ball Competition
The ACI 2016 Fiber-Reinforced Concrete (FRC) Bowling Ball Competition took place Apr 17, 2016, at The ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition in Milwaukee, WI. In this exciting competition, students were challenged to: 1. Design and construct an FRC bowling ball that achieves optimal performance for specified tests and tasks. 2. Document and present the team's work to an audience of industry professionals. The objectives of this competition are to demonstrate the effect of fibers in reinforcing concrete, allow students to gain experience in forming and fabricating a fiber-reinforced concrete element, and encourage creativity in engineering design and analysis. Teams are judged in two categories: Bowling Ball Performance and Presentation. The first-, second-, and third-place teams in each category received cash awards of $750, $500, and $250, respectively.
