Age-Friendly Walkable Urban Spaces: A Participatory Assessment Tool
Creating active-living, age-friendly communities requires new methods to assess public spaces and to engage older citizens in healthy urban planning. This article presents the development and piloting of a participatory group tool to evaluate and rate the quality of streets for walking from the viewpoint of older adults, designed as a simple and practical perceived built-environment measure for action and research purposes. The pilot study took place in two cities (Lisbon and Odivelas) in Portugal, and involved 32 older residents and local partners.
