Influence of Initial Static Splitting Tensile Loading on Dynamic Compressive Strength of Concrete Cores under High Strain Rates
AbstractAmong various index properties used by civil engineers, the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of concrete cores is probably the most widely used property of concrete. The quasistatic standard Brazilian disk test and split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) dynamic compression test of the concrete cores are investigated in this paper, and the influence of different initial static loadings on the dynamic compression performance of concrete is investigated. The initial static loadings are divided into five grades, 0, 25, 50, 75, and 90% of the static splitting strength of concrete cores, respectively. Meanwhile, the Weibull statistical distribution model is introduced to analyze the test results of strength, which show that the dynamic compressive strength of concrete increases with the increase of the initial static loading and strain rate. In addition, according to the results obtained from the experimental data, a predication model for dynamic compressive strength of concrete cores is proposed.
