ACI Concrete Sustainability Forum IX
The ACI Concrete Sustainability Forum IX was held in Philadelphia, PA, on October 26, 2016, at The ACI Concrete Convention and Exposition. This forum series originated as a workshop in St. Louis, MO, in 2008, when ACI Committee 130, Sustainability of Concrete, was formed. Since then, forums have taken place in New Orleans, LA; Pittsburgh, PA; Cincinnati, OH; Toronto, ON, Canada; Phoenix, AZ; Washington; DC; and Denver, CO. The ninth ACI Concrete Sustainability Forum featured presentations from seven experts on sustainability design, sustainability assessment systems, and new material technologies for sustainable buildings and civil engineering structures. Koji Sakai, Japan Sustainability Institute, elucidated the essence of sustainability by reviewing the tragedy of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Environmentally, vast amounts of energy and resources were required to remove waste and debris and reconstruct infrastructure and facilities.
