END-USERS' PERCEPTION FROM HOUSING NEEDS BASED ON MASLOW'S THEORY OF MOTIVATION
The operational approach is highly critical in case of inaccessibility of endusers in decision making, i.e. mass housing. [...]this study aims at explaining end-users' housing motivations from their housing attributes preferences, through a theoretical framework developed based on Maslow's theory. [...]primary levels of needs that associate with relatively tangible and concrete attributes are more likely to be content-specific and predictable. Introduction A global characteristic of modern days housing is the disconnection between end-users and decision makers (israel, 2003). accordingly, end-users are subjected to adopt previously formulated plans (moser et al., 2003). therefore, in many countries, especially those that are considered as developing countries i.e. iran and malaysia, failure in considering end-users' motivations in housing is common. lack of attention to end-users' motivation in housing is the main reason for a vast amount of negative physiological and psychological consequences, which may eventually lead to uprootedness or rootshock (stanley, 2009). In responding to this aim, this study employs a theoretical framework based on maslow's (1970) theory to identify the relationship between end-users' motivations and their housing attributes preferences. the theory was selected due to a number of reasons. first, needs theories are able to cover various aspects of human motivations explained by different concepts and models on motivation (steel et al., 2006). in theory of human motivation (maslow, 1970), the concept of motivation is more likely to be comprehensive, universal, content-specific, and tangible, hence is suitable for an operational approach to be employed in housing (tay et al., 2011; cherry, 2011). furthermore,...
