Procedure for investigating cyclic loading of clayey soils in uniplanar shear
Abstract A procedure is presented for the testing of clayey soils under a cyclic low-frequency load, as applies to the modernized PSG-2M(Zh) uniplanar-shear device, which makes it possible to perform tests in accordance with two loading schemes: symmetric and instantaneously increasing from zero to a positive (negative) load value. Hysteresis loops are obtained and their attenuation with increasing number of load cycles is established in tests performed in accordance with these schemes. Equations are derived for calculation of the strain and shear moduli under a stress state corresponding to uniplanar shear.
