Identifying critical success factors of ERP in the construction industry
Abstract Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is a platform which integrates various departments such as accounting, planning, etc. to increase the speed of business processes and bring transparency in the system. It has been found that the success rate of ERP implementation is low in the construction industry as compared to other industries even after investing huge amount and time for its implementation. Previous research indicated the success factors, but the proper procedure was not provided for implementation. The objective of this study is to find critical success factors (CSFs) of an ERP system in construction companies. This study is based on detailed literature analysis. In this, top five CSFs are identified and how those play a vital role in implementation is explained. Finally, the proper procedure for ERP implementation is recommended. Future of the construction industry could be improved by integrating ERP, building information modeling (BIM), and cloud computing.
