Investigation of the manipulative characteristics of various types of turbine-generator unit thrust bearings
Conclusions The manipulative characteristics of generating units are determined in many respects by the condition of the bearings. An increase in manipulation complicates the operating conditions of the bearings because of an increase in the unfavorable regimes of starting, stopping, and rapid load change and impose certain demands on the design and operation of the bearings. The manipulative properties of the bearings are determined in the most severe regimes possible during regulation and in emergency regimes of the power system. Most complex is the starting regime with difficult conditions of the formation and minimum thickness of the oil film and maximum thermal strains.A comparative analysis of the manipulative characteristics of different types of bearings shows better characteristics of the thermal regime, thermal strains, formation and state of the oil film for the bearing on a hydraulic support with automatic equalization of the loads between the segments and bearings when the new synthetic coating of the segments is used, considering also their higher starting specific loads. The reversible bearing with zero eccentricity of the setting of the segments experiences the severest conditions of formation of the oil film and requires forced delivery of oil to the sliding surfaces before starting. The hydrostatic method of lubrication has a substantial effect on the starting condtions, facilitating them considerably. The bearing with the new ceramet coating of the segments, which facilitates the starting conditions and permits greater starting pressures, has the best indices. This bearing provides high manipulative characteristics without complicating the design and introducing additional elements into the starting scheme. Further investigations are needed to improve the antifriction properties, technology, and design of the bearing with the new coating, which will allow increasing the loads, including the starting loads, which is especially important for bearings of large units with large axial pressures.
