Use of energy storage by increasing the head of the hydroelectric station-pumped storage station
Conclusions The proposed HES-PSS scheme (see Fig. 2) with an excess of the head of the turbine regime $ H_{t} $ over its value during filling $ H_{f} $ provides the following advantages:There are broader possibilities of using pumped storage in flatland regions of the country with a large unit capacity of the reversible sets and increase of the economic potential of hydropower resources of rivers, including with the multipurpose use of the stream-flow.The depth of the pump-turbine sets and powerhouse is reduced.Depending on how much $ H_{f} $ is less than $ H_{t} $, the optima of the efficiency of both storing regimes can be made close to one another or matched and its overall efficiency can be increased; a more complete characterization of the proposed scheme can be obtained after performing design studies and laboratory investigations of models of the unit blocks of the HES-PSS IH.
