Some problems connected with engineering geological surveys for road building
Summary The paper deals with some principles of engineering-geological surveys for road building. On account of the linear nature of a road, the surveys usually comprise areas differing, in geological and hydrogeological conditions and assignable to several geomorphological units or regions. The surveys and the design are highly complex and time-consuming when a road passes through different geomorphological regions or units. The paper presents an attempt at making the surveys less time-consuming, on condition that all the data necessary for design are provided. The methodology of complex engineering-geological surveys is discussed and an example of an engineering-geological map for road building is given. It should be stressed that the shorter method of surveying is connected with a thorough geological analysis. The analysis should make possible a reduction in the scale and time of documentation works (drilling and earth works), elimination of the casual distribution of documentation points and at the same time a more appropriate evaluation of engineering-geological conditions.
