Hydrogeological mapping for design of water amelioration in drainage basins used for agricultural purposes
Summary The paper presents a method of hydrogeological mapping for designing water amelioration in river valleys. A demand for hydrogeological maps and their content is illustrated on an example of a section of a drainage basin about 500 $ km^{2} $ I arge, with an undisturbed hydrological-hydrogeological regime and used for agricultural purposes. Map scale needs to be adjusted to size of the drainage basin and to a designing phase. The whole of the drainage basin should be mapped at the scale 1∶50,000 or 1∶25,000. The scale is chosen on the grounds of:- size of the drainage basin,- complexity of its geological structure, and- number of available observation places for the analysis of hydrogeological conditions. The hydrogeological map of a river valley was prepared as a part of the map including the whole drainage basin on an appropriately larger scale (1∶2,000). Methodology of geological and hydrogeological studies connected with preparation of this map is discussed with reference to a given model of agricultural use of the river valley areas and to a distribution of fluvival soils. The section in the paper illustrates an accepted method of graphic presentation of survey results, derived from a design of engineering works in the river valley.
