Hydrological testing for deep shafts and tunnels
Summary Methods of water testing for mineshaft investigations have moved away from steady state well resistance measurements towards the transient methods associated with Theis and developed by Horner and others. The commonest system in use is the drill stem test of the oil industry but alternative methods employing the measurement of the recovery of aquifer pressure following a period of borehole flow are described, which on occasion are better suited to the evaluation of very strong aquifers. Results of such tests are compared with those from a new type of probehole test carried out from the advancing excavation face.
