Hydrostatic Tiltmeters in Local Geodynamical Measurements
Abstract Local geodynamical measurements are very important to monitor local ground movements in the vicinity of dangerous industrial objects as nuclear power stations, dams, waste deposits, etc. For this purpose hydrostatic tiltmeters are especially suitable because they can have a very long base length and they are less sensitive to local disturbances than mechanical ones. For interpretation of data measured by hydrostatic tiltmeters the static and dynamic properties and the error influences of these instruments should be known. In this paper the functions describing the static and dynamic behaviour of hydrostatic tiltmeters are derived from their physical working principle. Since the temperature has a considerable effect on the accuracy of the instruments, the thermal influence is investigated in detail.
