Active seismic pressure against retaining wall backfilled with cohesive soils
This paper describes the derivation of an analytical expression for the active seismic pressure of soil (ASPS) against a retaining wall backfilled with a cohesive soil. The failure surface is assumed to be planar. ASPS values obtained by the pseudo-static and pseudo-dynamic methods are compared for different factors. Parametric investigation has demonstrated that the pseudo-static method is more conservative as compared with the quasi-dynamic method, which reflects a nonlinear distribution of ASPS along the wall.
