Effect of Nonhomogeneity of Soils on their Mechanical Properties
Results are presented for experimental and theoretical investigations of the mechanical properties of nonhomogeneous soils, and the mechanism of SSS formation is examined for different combinations of soil components. A procedure is proposed for prediction of mechanical properties of in-situ and artificial beds with respect to grain-size distribution. Soils are classified based on the degree of their nonhomogeneity, and also on the relationship between the compression modulus and the grain-size distribution and density of the soils.
