Systematic differences of concrete strength in precast products
Abstract Concrete strength in various portions of a structure may show an essentially systematic difference. The main reasons for such non-uniformity in precast products which are moulded on a table vibrator are (i) a systematic change of concrete cement paste strength along the product thickness, and (ii) different effects of heat treatment on concrete in various portions of the product. Theoretical and experimental studies of systematic differences in concrete strength in precast products have been carried out. A quantitative evaluation of the effects of each of the above factors on the degree of strength difference has been also conducted. The results obtained are compared with the differences determined directly from concrete strength tests on structures and specimens. The results may be used for assessing the effect of heat treatment on the concrete surface layers, and for predicting systematic differences, of concrete strength in the thickness direction of precast products which are compacted on vibrating tables.
