Remarks on the calculation of the Denmark-Norway connexion by flare triangulation 1945
Summary As a conclusion to the provisional discussion of the work on the Denmark-Norway connexion by flares, which was presented at Oslo in 1948, the author now gives the final situation. The calculation of the connexion is based on the New Danish Adjustment, which thus ties the Norwegian Triangulation to the Baltic Chain. The procedure involved considering, as direct observations, the values of the discrepanciesDiф andDiλ between the Danish and Norwegian coordinates, when reducing the observations to the vertical of Sotåsen. The differences in azimuth and scale of the two triangulations were calculated from these discrepancies and the Norwegian and Danish systems referred to each other. The solution of the 912 observation equations gives the following standard errors. This accuracy could well be improved in the future by the use of radio controlled photo-theodolites with photographic recording of readings.
