Engineering geological and construction technological characteristics of triassic dolomites in Hungary
Summary During the compilation of the Hungarian Register of Dolomite Resources for the Building Industry, Triassic dolomites of diversified lithology and stratigraphic position were examined by a variety of methods. After the geological and lithological characterization of the dolomites the results of construction technological tests on the main lithological types are presented partly by mountain ranges (geological regions), partly by principal lithological types. The individual rock types are evaluated from the viewpoint of their usability for concrete manufacture and road and hydrotechnical construction: applications imposing the most severe requirement on the engineer. Finally, the engineering geological characteristics of two barrage dams on dolomite bedrock from Hungary are outlined.
