Measurement of subsoil flow phenomena by thermic and geoelectric methods
Summary In this paper methods used for measuring subsoil flow phenomena are discussed and the advantages of thermic and geoelectric measurements are pointed out. Examples are given in order to illustrate that these flow phenomena can either be detected by thermic, geoelectric, hydrogeologic or chemical measurements, since the results obtained in any of these investivations are identical. Some examples for thermic, hydraulic and self-potential fields in the penetrated subsoil are given. It is shown how the self-potential fields depend on seasonal influences on the hydraulic gradient and on sealing procedures. The above-mentioned methods were used for localizing leakage zones in dams and for testing the applicability of the measurements. The thermic techniques comprise measurements directly in the soil, in the observation system and on the dam surface by infrared photography. The geoelectric methods are resistance and self-potential measurements.
