Delivery and Management of Basic Services to the Urban Poor: The Role of the Urban Basic Services, Delhi
This paper stimulates a discussion about the provision and management of basic services to the urban poor in the context of the ever-expanding metropolitan cities of India. The process of metropolitan growth is analysed in the first section of the paper. This section discusses the demographic explosion and economic dominance of the metropolises. The second section of the paper describes the status of basic services1 in Delhi, with a summary of the status of basic services in India. The third section deals with the analysis of the UBSP approach for provision, management and enhancement of the level of basic services. Some key isues are raised in the last section.
