Motivation, integrity, Performance and Accountability in NGOS: The Case of NGOCC in Zambia
Since the 1980s NGOs have become prominent. Theorists have pointed to NGOs as having comparative advantages over government agencies and business in that they promote work motivation and democracy. Critics have pointed out that NGOs may be controlled by charismatic individuals. This case study reporting on NGOCC, used focused group interviews with executives of NGOCC and other relevant people. The findings showed that NGOCC has problems of coordination, cooperation and communication which affect its performance. Its lack of formalised work protocol also affects its integrity. However NGOCC is highly accountable and has highly-motivated individuals. We conclude that over time, NGOCC is becoming more institutionalised and this may improve its performance.
