Over the past few decades the planned and deliberate use of communication has taken an increasingly prominent place in development strategies. It was realized that no change in the lives of people covered by development programmes will take place without the development of appropriate values, attitudes and stock of knowledge in the minds of the people. This notion put due emphasis on education and communication as important instruments for development. Depending on the scope, approach and target audience of the programme, communication activities have taken the form of information transfers by mass media, instructors, extensionists, workshops, demonstrations, theatre performances, film shows and many others.
