Double-Layer Grids with Steel Members and Reinforced Concrete Slabs
In order to reduce the steel consumption in double-layer grids, the top members are replaced by square reinforced concrete ribbed slabs. Though the dead weight is somewhat increased, the solution is advantageous since the slabs not only play a structural role, but also constitute the rigid support for the insulation and waterproofing. The steel saving amounts to 22% of the corresponding steel solution. A full scale model consisting of 4 slabs and the corresponding bracing and bottom steel members was tested in order to investigate the joint behaviour. The results were most satisfactory.
