Utilization of Air-Cooled Ferrochrome Slag in Lime Additive Blended Cement-Based Concrete
This paper reports on the outcomes of investigations performed to study the properties of concrete made of blended types of cement such as Portland pozzolana cement (PPC) and Portland slag cement (PSC) with lime as supplementary cementitious material and air-cooled ferrochrome slag (ACFS) as an alternative to natural coarse aggregate. Inclusion of lime at a dosage of 7% was considered on partial replacement of cement while ACFS was considered for total replacement of virgin coarse aggregates. Results of the study indicated that due to the blending of lime with blended types of cement, the consistency, setting time and workability decreases while soundness remains consistent. The strength properties like compressive, flexural and split tensile strength of concrete increase on the inclusion of lime and ACFS. The sorptivity of concrete decreases, when ACFS is used as an alternate coarse aggregate.
