Impact of Inhibiting Factors on the Efficiency of Precast Construction Projects Using Kendall’s Concordance Method
With the increasing demand for concrete across the globe, there is a need for an alternative to on-site construction. Precast concrete is one such methodology in which the concrete is fabricated in the factory. The present study deals with the assessment of inhibiting factors affecting the efficiency of precast concrete. There is an increase in demand for fast construction, especially in developing countries and one of precast concrete construction’s most significant advantages is its speedy construction. Regardless of all the advantages of precast concrete, only two percent of the total construction projects use precast concrete elements for a building. This is due to lack of knowledge on how efficient precast construction is. In the present study, a questionnaire was created to assess professionals’ level of agreement regarding the benefits of precast concrete, using Kendall’s concordance method. Questionnaires were sent to several companies that work on precast projects. Results indicated that five factors namely: rapid construction, extremely good fair-faced concrete finish, mechanization and mass production, ease of construction, and high quality as the primary benefits of construction with precast concrete.
