Exploring Attributes of Vernacular Assam Type House Design Techniques in Contemporary Setting
Abstract Typical Assam-type houses (ATH) is a result of local considerations and has withstood catastrophes of earthquake zone 5. But ATH is not the first choice of construction today anymore. Paper infers attributes of bygone ATH and ways to integrate them in prevalent construction techniques. A field study was conducted to detail out vernacularism about its sustenance, decoding planning, design, materials, construction techniques, etc. Proportion of wooden materials used and segmentation of walling are few of many findings which are crucial about ATH. Few pivotal sustainable aspects were also discovered. Combining both may give us an acceptable solution for tomorrow.
