Effects of Water Wave Kinematics Uncertainty on Design Criteria for Offshore Structures
Abstract The effects of water wave kinematics on design criteria for offshore structures is examined in the framework of a comprehensive reliability analysis. The major components contributing to uncertainties in kinematics and hydrodynamic forces are discussed. Basic engineering approaches to evaluations of uncertainties in the components are discussed and illustrated with development of design criteria for an offshore oil and gas drilling and production platform located in a tropical cyclone region.
