Therapeutic Garden Design: Aesthetics and Semiotics
The paper discusses the basic semiotic codes of garden landscapes. The problem of aesthetic concept choice for hospital’s therapeutic garden is solved in favor of the “living picture” based on pastoral idyll and paradise garden model. The principles of landscape evolutionist aesthetics are critically analyzed. The semiotic analysis of therapeutic landscapes has shown the abandonment of radical forms of Naturgarden style and deconstructivism, as dehumanized geographic models inconsistent with the local cultural landscape and the tasks of therapeutic effect.
