Possible Hardware Architectures for Power Line Communication in Automotive V2G Applications
Electric vehicles use the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) standard ISO 15118 for communication between the vehicle and the grid. V2G is also commercially known as Plug&Charge. Qualcomm QCA7005 is an ASSP (application-specific standard part) for this application. V2G allows for simpler charging without special authentication steps from the end user to charge the vehicle. This paper first looks at the charging landscape of the electric vehicles (EVs) and then goes deeper at the power line communication (PLC). Further, possible hardware architectures for PLC application at EVs for smart charging/wired V2G functionality based on ISO 15118 and HomePlug Green PHY specification are discussed.
