The Role of Smart Cities or Regional Hubs
Smart Cities are a rising concept in the area of urban and regional planning. We begin with a working definition of a Smart City and continue into the ways in which Smart Cities can be built so that they more fully support the innovation ecosystem.
Some of the same assumptions extend to the concept of regional hubs and regional planning. Regions are a fundamental element of how areas plan and respond to growth, but they can seem oddly disconnected from the reality of supporting that growth. We dive into the elements of regional growth constraints in the innovation ecosystem and potential means to alleviate them.
We then touch upon the relationship of a regional hub to the regional education system, encouraging a synergistic planning concept. This encourages all three actors in the regional innovation play – the regional planning, regional education and innovation hub – to act in concert.
Finally, we discuss the concept of changing the way people interact with their government a smart environment with the concept of smart governance in its association with the innovation ecosystem.
