Minimum-Cost Design of Reinforced Concrete Members by Non-Linear Programming
Abstract This lecture will summarize the results of several publications by Kanagasundaram & Karihaloo (1989, 1991) and Karihaloo & Kanagasundaram (1990) on the minimum-cost designs of reinforced concrete members that satisfy the requirements of the new Limit States Codes. The total cost of the structure includes the costs of concrete, reinforcing steel and formwork. The minimum cost structure is such that all its appropriate functional states(stability, strength, serviceability, durability and fire resistance) are within the allowable performance limits.
