Multiple Solutions to Stabilize a Deep-Seated Landslide
Landslide hazard is considered as one of the geological disasters and many countries face major landslide-caused damages. The North of Vietnam has a high concentration of expressway development on hilly terrain in close proximity to many man-made slopes. These man-made slopes are vulnerable and destabilized when the forests have been cut to make the new expressway. A detailed assessment of a deep-seated landslide such as shape, depth of slip surface, sliding characteristics, and consequential hazards as well is presented in this research project. Intensive geological investigations with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were conducted to estimate the damage and especially slope stability assessment after the occurrence of slope failures. A comprehensive remedial solution was then suggested and applied to stabilize the slope as well as prevent the danger of future landslides. In addition, a 2D numerical analysis was made to assess the behavior of the designed slope by using a commercial finite element program PLAXIS 2D.
