Abstract Electrochromic coatings change color by the application of an electric stimulus. Under this stimulus the oxidation state of the material is altered resulting in a color change. Depending on the degree of oxidation or reduction the depth of color and transmission through the coating can be controlled [1, 2]. These coatings can be employed in electrochromic applications such as smart windows [3, 4], large area displays [5] and automotive rearview mirrors [6]. For most applications low cost deposition of the active coatings is necessary to successfully market these products. Sol-gel deposition offers this possibility.
