Abstract The wave modelling activity at IFREMER is currently emphasizing a largest incorporation of real sea data analysis into the development of engineers-oriented formulations. This approach offers an opportunity to bring together user’s needs and theoretical knowledge. Three examples are given about wave groups, wave dissymetry and seastate stationnarity; preliminary results are given and the ongoing developments are mentionned.
