The Instrumentation Calibration Reduction Program (ICRP) at Northeast Utilities
Abstract The desire to substitute some program for the “Calibration” of the Core Exit Thermocouple (CET’s) at Millstone 3 (MP3) prompted Northeast Utilities (NU) to fund a project to study the feasibility of determining the state of CET calibration without having to have direct access to the CET’s. The project, carried out by WYTEK and Northeast Utilities, was commenced in October, 1986 and just recently completed. Although the CET’s were the prime focus, other safety related sensors were investigated as well. This paper describes presumptions and methods employed in the first phase, the feasibility study. Additionally, it describes the cost/benefit analysis which can be used by any utility to determine ICRP payback.
