Transient Response of Shallow Foundation Under Eccentric Static and Cyclic Load
The present study discusses the transient settlement of a shallow strip footing on cohesionless soil subjected to the combined influence of eccentric static and cyclic load. In contrast to the practice of considering the steady-state response, this study explains the transient response of foundation under cyclic excitation. A soil-foundation system is modelled using nonlinear mechanistic springs. The loading consists of two parts; first, the static allowable load and second, one cycle of vertical pulse load. Both the static and dynamic loads are applied eccentrically. The eccentricities are taken as 0, 5, 10, and 15% of the width of the footing. In addition, several parameters, viz., relative density, embedment ratio, amount of static load, and intensity of cyclic load are also considered for parametric study. It may be noted that, the parametric analysis is performed after verifying the initial results of present numerical model with existing experimental solutions of Meyerhof [13]and Patra et al. [15]. Lastly, the dataset is analysed using adaptive neuro-fuzzy interface system (ANFIS). It is found that the transient settlement ratio is nonlinearly influenced by the eccentricity ratio (e/B).
