Influence of Seabed Soil Characteristics on Eigenfrequency of Offshore Free Spanning Pipeline
Determination of eigenfrequency for free spanning pipeline is essential as it governs the design of offshore pipeline. From the literature survey, it is seen that a considerable amount of works have been studied to determine the behaviour of free span pipeline. But still, a lot of researches are required for evaluating the effect of pipeline specifications and seabed soil characteristics on eigenfrequencies of it. In this paper, frequency analysis of free spanning pipeline is carried out by both finite element modeling and using of DNVGL-RP-F105 (Free spanning pipelines Det Norske Veritas, Norway, 2017) guidelines. A parametric study of D/t (outer diameter to wall thickness of pipe) ratio and L/D (free span to outer diameter) ratio is carried out to analyse the influence of these ratios on eigenfrequencies of free spanning pipeline with different types of seabed soil. In this analysis, L/D ratio of 50–100 is taken with four pipe diameters (508, 610, 813 and 1016 mm). The D/t ratio of the pipe is varied from 20 to 50, and cohesive and cohesionless soils (very soft clay, soft clay, firm clay, stiff clay, loose sand and dense sand) are considered in this study.
