The current state of coal generating capacities in the world and Russia is analysed. Approaches for improving environmental performance and technical efficiency of operating Russian thermal power plants (TPPs) are described. Domestic developments in the field of developing advanced coal technologies for condensing thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants are presented.
