Summary Proposed method provides at least two advantages in its implementation in spite of the limitations. It needs a few material properties data and is therefore simpler for parametric analyses than a more sophisticated finite or distinct element method. Also, it accounts for shear strength activation level at each discontinuity and therefore it provides more realistic results for brittle materials than the limit equilibrium methods, which consider only average level of activation of peak or residual shear stength along sliding surface alone.
