Contemporary research on local channel scour downstream from hydraulic structures
Conclusion An analysis of the papers and discussions presented in the 12th IAHR Congress on the topic “Local Channel Scour Downstream from Hydraulic Structures demonstrated that recently a primary emphasis is being placed on the study of the actual characteristics of resistivity to scour (design size of sediment, which varies with scour development, armor coat, and cohesion), bottom pulsation velocities, variation of velocity distribution and transporting potential in the scour hole, and the effect of aeration, as well as studies on time and flood hydrograph influence on scour mechanics. For the theoretical solution of various problems on general and local scour, the methods of the probability theory and electronic computers are widely used.
