Modernization of Direct Current System at Mosenergo CHP
Due to the need to improve the reliability of its combined heat and power (CHP) operation by optimizing and improving the systems of power supply for consumers, Mosenergo is constantly working to upgrade switchgear busbars, operating direct current systems, auxiliary power supply systems of power plants, etc. In order to achieve these objectives, relay protection and automation principles were revised. Anumber of novel requirements for equipment and circuit design used in the DC operating systems at generation facilities were developed by the Mosenergo electrical equipment service. In addition, a methodology was developed for diagnosing operating direct current systems at CHPs, designed for the timely identification and elimination of defects in order to ensure reliable operation taking into account the experience of major grid companies in terms of organizing a new operating direct current system structure. A large-scale technical re-equipment program involving the replacement of DC panels and batteries at Mosenergo branches was approved by 2018. This article describes the new principles of arrangement of operating direct current systems in Russia’s largest territorial generating company, highlights the key differences from the previously used solutions, lists the facilities included in the re-equipment program, and draws conclusions about the expected effects of the measures being implemented.
