Geotechnical Engineering Accompanied by Risk
Geotechnical construction encounters many unexpected troubles, and one of the important reasons for this is the lack of subsurface information and knowledge. This paper calls the troubles “georisk” and exhibits that more subsurface investigations have to be practised in order to reduce this risk. Case history data was interpreted as a collaborative work with several institutions, and it was demonstrated that the risk can be mitigated by allocating more budget to the investigation. Another source of risk is the lack of knowledge, and one needs to pay more attention to the history of troubles that were experienced during projects in the past.
