Mechanical Properties of Geopolymer Concrete Reinforced with Various Fibers: A Review
Ever increasing environmental concern has led to find an alternative for steel reinforcement and ordinary Portland cement. Geopolymer primarily consists of fly ash, fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, and an alkaline activator. This review summarizes and discusses the recent developments in geopolymers with various fibers reinforcements like carbon fiber, basalt fiber, glass fiber, cotton fiber and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber. The review emphasizes mainly on the mechanical properties i.e., compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of geopolymer with each fiber. It concludes with suggestions for the most suitable fiber reinforced geopolymer in comparison with other fibers.
